History Complex

Ethnographic complex "Amshenskiy Dvor" – the first private non-governmental ethnographic object in Sochi.
Its creatorEdward Harutyunovich Kalajian for many years, he collected and compiled the family tree of many peoples who moved to the black sea coast of the Caucasus in the late XIX–early XX centuries.He collected documentary and material monuments that tell about their material and spiritual culture. The result of this huge work was: an ethnographic Museum, which includes more than one and a half thousand exhibits, an archaeological exhibition, a chapel and a memorial to soldiers.

Ethnographic complex is visited by tour groups, state and public figures, and various cultural and educational events are held here.

Creator Complex

For many yearsEdward Harutyunovich Kalajian he compiled the genealogy of his family, collected documentary and significant monuments that tell about the history of the migration of Hamshen Armenians from Turkey to the Black sea coast of the Caucasus, their material and spiritual culture.

Most of them are presented at the Ethnographic exhibition opened in 2000: photos of different generations of the Kalajyan family, agricultural tools, household utensils made of metal, clay, wood, musical instruments, postcards, books.

Family History Kalajian

Residents of charshamba (Turkey) native brothers Ruben and Nshan Kaljian (Kalaijian) took an active part in the insurgency against the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

In 1923, the brothers and their families illegally left by sea for Gelendzhik (Krasnodar territory). In the same year, they moved to the village. Verkhnyaya Shilovka of the Adler district, where they settled down and began working in agriculture. In the future, the majority of Kalganov worked in the farms.

They were particularly successful in tobacco farming. In 1935. Sean's family moved to S. Osychky (Abkhazia), and Rubin stayed with his family in the Upper Shylivka, where it still lives most of his descendants.

Territory Complex

In addition to the Museum, archaeological exhibition, chapel and memorial, we can say that the entire territory of the Complex, the very design of each corner, building, restaurant halls and facades is an ethnographic exhibition.

Museums and Exhibitions

The monument to the Defenders of the Fatherland was opened on February 23, 2003. it was completely reconstructed in 2020 for the 75th anniversary of the Victory. Ethnographic Museum is registered in the Department of culture of the administration of Sochi. And more than 500 copies of the archaeological exhibition represent exhibits that are more than 2000 years old.
